Career Planning For Technology Education Students

Information is power -- a simple axiom that truly applies to career planning today. The Internet is one of the most powerful tools a job hunter can use, and the information that is available at the click of a mouse can make anyone powerful. From resume writing to job listings, the web offers all the necessary ingredients to plan your career, research the required training, and inform potential employers about your skills.

It’s not enough to know what jobs are hot today, you need to know which career fields are expected to grow, and which ones aren’t. If you want to know which jobs are hot and which are not, check out the Occupational Outlook Handbook put out by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor. You’ll find labor projections for the 1998-2008 time frame and some sound reasons why some jobs are hot and some are not. It’s a complex data analysis project, but the Federal Government has been doing it for over 50 years, looking at 250 occupations, focused in 10 clusters. This is a great place to start your career planning, and here are more resources that will empower you to reach your goals. Good luck!
